Kanoo Real Estate has signed a construction agreement with Almoayyed Contracting Group to commence the development of the Kanoo Museum, which will serve as a tourist and cultural destination in the heart of the Kingdom’s capital; Bab Al Bahrain. The agreement has been signed by Mr. Talal Fawzi Kanoo, Chairman of Kanoo Real Estate, and Mrs. Hala Farouk Almoayyed, Executive Director of Almoayyed Contracting Group, in the presence of the Divisional CEO of Kanoo Real Estate, Mr. Mohamed Abdulelah Al-Kooheji and a number of senior managers from both companies.
The Chairman of Kanoo Real Estate, Mr. Talal Fawzi Kanoo, announced that the development of the Kanoo Museum will begin this month, and is being built at the historic headquarters of Yusuf bin Ahmed Kanoo at the Manama Souq, which was initially inaugrated in 1960 by the late Ruler of Bahrain, His Highness Shaikh Salman Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa in 1960, and pointed out that the museum will showcase to it visitors a touristic and cultrual landmark, portraying the Kanoo family’s history of over 130 years in trade and commerce that spun across 3 continents, and sheds light on the regional trade and business environment of the Arabian Gulf in an attempt to inspire new generations of Entrepreneurs in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Talal Fawzi Kanoo, Chairman of Kanoo Real Estate, said: “We are proud to be one of the leading multi-generational Gulf family businesses and are honoured of our long business history in the Manama Souq, where the Kanoo Museum will contribute to reflecting on our continued role and vital presence in this market”.
Mr. Kanoo also added: “The museum will include a welcoming space for visitors, presentations that portray the story, aided by a collection of Yusuf bin Ahmed Kanoo’s artifacts, dating back from its inception to its modern day, as well as creative space for artists and creators to display their collections and to host recurrent art and cultural workshops and seminars.
On the occasion, the CEO of Kanoo Real Estate, Mr. Mohamed Abdulelah Al-Kooheji, stated: “The Kanoo Museum covers a total built up area of 7,000 square meters and will include space for permanent and temporary exhibitions, in addition to equipping the Musuem with numerous services and amenities such as a library, archive rooms, galleries, workshop and meeting rooms, as well as an auditorium. The Kanoo Museum aims to preserve the iconic elements of building, which is one of the first buildings in the Kingdom that was constructed using a robust steel structure, dating back to the previous century in addition to preserving the building to its original aesthetics when it was operated in 1960. The museum will highlight the Kanoo family’s commercial, economic, social and cultural heritage and contribution over the past century.”
Mr. Al-Kooheji added that Gulf House Engineering was appointed as a consultant for the project and DG Jones for quantity surveying. The designs of the Kanoo Museum were created by Cultural Innovations, a London-based multidisciplinary and global leader in museum designs.
